Planting of 2.65 Million Saksaul Shrubs
As part of the construction of the power plant, Voltalia completed the planting of White Saksaul in April 2025.
In compliance with the conditions of the Haloxylon sp. (listed as an important species in Uzbekistan) cutting permit, Voltalia launched a major planting campaign.
This large-scale replanting project, carried out in close collaboration with the Ministry of Ecology and the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, required the planting of 2.65 million individual Saksaul saplings within an area of 1 062 ha. This required a workforce of approximately 200 workers, mainly from nearby villages, over a 25-day period. A maintenance contract was also signed for a duration of two years to ensure the long-term care and management of these newly planted individuals.
Beyond compensation, these species play a crucial role in combating desertification and reducing sandstorms, thereby contributing to the region’s environmental preservation. Additionally, the cut shrubs were provided to local communities to use as firewood, ensuring responsible and appropriate management of natural resources.
This shrub replanting project adheres to the highest environmental standards of the International Finance Corporation, ensuring Voltalia’s activities align with global best practices in sustainable development. In addition, this project demonstrates Voltalia’s commitment to preserving local biodiversity while supporting regional economic development, in line with the Uzbek environmental regulations.
Scheduled for commissioning in the second half of 2025, the Sarimay solar plant will produce clean electricity to meet the needs of approximately 60,000 inhabitants and help avoid the emission of 116,000 tons of CO₂ annually.
As a mission-driven company, Voltalia integrates sustainability and social responsibility at the heart of its projects, aligning itself with its purpose “Improving global environment, fostering local development”.
